Captains of Enterprise
Limerick City Enterprise Board has developed this pilot imitative in an attempt to address the lower levels of participation by women in Enterprise. The Board carried out research to specifically examine cultural, social, attitudinal and structural barriers encountered by women engaging in enterprise. The research involved consultation with students, teachers and entrepreneurs and was carried out locally, nationally and internationally. Following on from the research results an innovative programme designed to nurture creative thinking, encourage risk taking, enhance confidence and self-esteem among young female students was developed and pilot tested
This programme 'Captains of Enterprise' enables students to learn through a process of action and discovery rather than the more traditional 'tell & learn' method. Students enjoy participating in the programme and find it 'interesting, fun, modern and hip'. The resource materials developed are innovative in structure and content and encourage thinking 'outside the box'
